Young V&A: Crowned "Museum of the Year"

The Young Victoria and Albert Museum (Young V&A) in London, which describes itself as "the world's most joyful museum", has been awarded "Museum of the Year" by the Art Fund, a non-profit organisation.

The prestigious award, presented annually to a UK museum or gallery, comes with a £120,000 prize (£155,000). It recognises the Young V&A's dedication to creativity and innovation, particularly following its extensive redevelopment.

The museum, which reopened in July 2023 after a three-year, £13 million ($16.8 million) refurbishment, now boasts three permanent exhibitions: "Play", "Imagine", and "Design". These exhibitions aim to engage visitors of all ages, encouraging them to explore the world of design and creativity in a playful and interactive manner.

Entry to the Young V&A is free, with the exception of its temporary ticketed exhibitions, which currently cost £9 ($11.70) for adults and children aged four and above.

The museum's commitment to accessibility and inclusivity is evident in its design and programming. With its focus on hands-on learning and playful experiences, the Young V&A aims to inspire the next generation of designers, artists, and creators.

The Art Fund, a leading supporter of museums and galleries in the UK, praised the Young V&A for its "bold and imaginative approach" to museum design and its "commitment to making the museum a truly welcoming and accessible space for all."

The "Museum of the Year" award is a testament to the Young V&A's success in creating a unique and inspiring visitor experience. It is a recognition of the museum's dedication to engaging with a diverse audience and fostering a love of design and creativity in all.
