"You Gotta Believe": Fort Worth's Little League Story Hits the Big Screen
This August, moviegoers can experience the inspiring true story of the 2002 Westside Little League team from Fort Worth, Texas, with the release of "You Gotta Believe". Starring Dallas native Luke Wilson, the film chronicles the underdog team's journey to the Little League World Series, a story of resilience and community spirit.
The film focuses on the team's rallying around a teammate's dying father, a role brought to life by Wilson. As depicted in the movie, the Westside team, facing immense adversity, delivered a memorable performance in the national tournament, creating an ESPN "Instant Classic".
Liz DiLullo Brown, Executive Vice President of Little League, expressed her excitement about the film's release. "There are millions of unique stories of Little League dreams, and the spirit of community is the common thread throughout all of them," she said in a press release. "We are proud to see 'You Gotta Believe' hit cinemas this August, as an inspirational reminder of the power of sport to bring people together."
"You Gotta Believe", distributed by Plano-based Well Go USA, is scheduled for release in cinemas on Friday, 30th August. A full-length trailer, showcasing the film's emotional impact and captivating storyline, is available online.
This is not the first time Wilson has starred in a film based on a true story from Fort Worth. In 2021, he played Rusty Russell in "12 Mighty Orphans", which tells the tale of a coach who guided an orphanage football team to the 1938 state championship.
"You Gotta Believe" promises to be a heartwarming and inspiring watch, highlighting the power of teamwork, perseverance, and the importance of community in the face of adversity. The film serves as a reminder that even the most unlikely of heroes can achieve greatness with unwavering belief and a strong sense of camaraderie.
