Trump Rally Playlist: Celine Dion's 'Titanic' Anthem Amidst Campaign's 'Sinking' Fortunes

As the former President's latest bid for the White House appears to be floundering, a peculiar musical choice at his recent rally has sparked amusement and commentary on social media.

Donald Trump's campaign event in Bozeman, Montana, on Friday featured an unexpected addition to the playlist: Celine Dion's iconic ballad "My Heart Will Go On," the love theme from the 1997 blockbuster film "Titanic".

This seemingly incongruous selection has been interpreted by many as a humorous reflection of the perceived state of Trump's campaign. Social media users have been quick to point out the irony, with one user, Marc Broklawski, quipping, "Perfect - because when your campaign’s headed for an iceberg, you might as well set it to music."

The "iceberg" in this scenario is presumably the campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris, who has recently overtaken Trump in the polls following President Joe Biden's withdrawal from the race.

While "My Heart Will Go On" is widely associated with the tragic sinking of the RMS Titanic, the song's lyrics are not actually about the disaster. The ballad focuses on the enduring nature of love and the ability to cope with loss, with lines such as "Near, far, wherever you are/I believe that the heart does go on". Some might interpret the lyrics as a testament to resilience, fitting for a politician facing potential defeat.

However, the song's use at the rally has not gone unnoticed by Celine Dion, who issued a statement on her Instagram expressing her disapproval.

"My management team and my record label, Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc., became aware of the unauthorized usage of the video, recording, musical performance, and likeness of the song at the rally," Dion stated. "In no way is this use authorized, and Celine Dion does not endorse this or any similar use... And really, THAT song?"

The inclusion of "My Heart Will Go On" in the playlist has become a talking point, generating a mix of amusement and commentary on social media. Whether it's a deliberate strategic choice or simply a case of unfortunate timing, the song's use serves as a symbolic reflection of the ups and downs of the current political landscape.
