TIFF 2024 Lineup Expands: Coppola, Guadagnino, and More

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has unveiled a further 20 titles joining the Official Selection for its 49th edition, taking place from 5th to 15th September.

Among the Gala additions are Francis Ford Coppola's highly anticipated "Megalopolis" and the world premiere of "William Tell." This medieval-set historical drama stars Claes Bang, Connor Swindells, Jonathan Pryce, Ben Kingsley, and Jonah Hauer-King, and is directed by BAFTA-winning producer and director Nick Hamm. It portrays the Austrian Empire's invasion of Switzerland in a tumultuous period.

The world premiere slate also boasts the queer love triangle "On Swift Horses," directed by Daniel Minahan and starring Jacob Elordi, Daisy Edgar-Jones, and Diego Calva, alongside Max Minghella's "Shell," featuring an all-star cast including Elisabeth Moss, Kate Hudson, and Kaia Gerber.

Further bolstering the festival's lineup are the North American premieres of Halina Reijn's "Babygirl," featuring Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson, and Luca Guadagnino's "Queer." Both films will make their respective world premieres at the Venice Film Festival.

Pedro Almodóvar's Venice-bound "The Room Next Door" will also be screened at TIFF, kicking off a celebration of his artistic vision and storytelling prowess. A retrospective of his work will be showcased at TIFF Lightbox in November.

The Special Screening events include Damien Chazelle's "Whiplash" and Mina Shum's "Double Happiness," which premiered at TIFF in 1994.
