The Rising Sun Returns: Bury St Edmunds Pub Set for Reopening

A historic pub in Bury St Edmunds is set to reopen its doors later this year, bringing a familiar name back to the town. The Rising Sun, located at 98 Risbygate Street, was previously a popular local haunt before closing in 2010 and later being converted into the restaurant Casa, which shut its doors in 2023.

The property was put up for sale by estate agents Everard Cole, with a price tag of over £800,000. It has now been acquired by Burlison Inns, a local group that also owns the Nethergate Brewery in Bury St Edmunds. This acquisition marks the 15th pub for the expanding Burlison Inns portfolio.

Burlison Inns intends to restore the building to its former glory, reopening it as a traditional and family-friendly pub under the name The Rising Sun. This will mark a return to its original identity, after a period as St Edmunds Tavern, a 15th-century coaching inn that also operated under the Rising Sun name.

Gareth Hatton, associate director at Everard Cole and a resident of Bury St Edmunds, expressed his enthusiasm for the pub's return: "We wish Gary and the team every success with the opening later this year and for the future." The reopening is expected to be a welcome addition to the town's vibrant hospitality scene, providing a space for locals and visitors alike to enjoy a traditional pub experience.
