The Chase: Bradley Walsh Reveals Winning Formula

As ITV's quiz show The Chase celebrates its 15th anniversary, presenter Bradley Walsh has offered some sage advice to aspiring contestants hoping to outsmart the formidable Chasers.

Speaking to viewers, Walsh, who also fronts other popular shows such as Gladiators, highlighted the key traits that separate winners from losers. He emphasized the importance of composure and focus, stating: "It's funny, because it's not always the most knowledgeable contestants or best quizzers who win. You need to be calm, you need to make sure you properly listen to the question."

He further advised contestants to be strategic, particularly when faced with uncertainty. "When you don't know the answer, make an early guess as that puts the pressure onto The Chaser to answer quickly as well, which can force mistakes - rarely, but it does happen," he said.

Walsh also acknowledged the element of luck that inevitably plays a role in the game. "They all have their individual strengths and weaknesses, so sometimes luck can have an influence – as it does with what questions come up for contestants," he admitted.

The pressure of facing some of the nation's sharpest minds can be overwhelming, according to Walsh. "People who get overawed by being on set, facing the Chasers – who are looking down on them, physically on set – can crumble, so self-belief is key," he explained.

However, confidence can be a double-edged sword. "Although it can go the other way and contestants who jump in too early with answers, don't listen to the questions properly or sometimes take too big a risk on offers can come up short," Walsh cautioned.

The Chase's 15th-anniversary special is set to air on 2nd September on ITV1, promising a thrilling celebration of the iconic show's enduring popularity.
