Taylor Swift Dominates 2024 VMAs Nominations with 10 Nods

In a year where she's reigned supreme across recorded music and live performances, Taylor Swift has unsurprisingly emerged as the leading nominee for MTV's Video Music Awards, racking up a remarkable 10 nominations for the 2024 ceremony.

Following closely behind with nine nominations is Post Malone, primarily for his collaboration with Swift on the hit track "Fortnight." Sabrina Carpenter, Eminem, and Ariana Grande tie for third place with six nominations each, while SZA and Megan Thee Stallion each received five nods.

Making significant headway as a solo artist, Blackpink's Lisa joins Olivia Rodrigo and Teddy Swims with four nominations apiece. Meanwhile, Benson Boone, Anitta, Dua Lipa, Tyla, Bleachers, and GloRilla all garnered three nominations each.

The VMAs will be broadcast live from UBS Arena on 10 September at 8 pm ET/PT. This marks the first time the award show will be held at this New York venue, after two years at the Prudential Center in New Jersey. The host for the ceremony is yet to be announced.

Fan voting in 15 categories, including the coveted Video of the Year award, is now open and will run until 30 August at vote.mtv.com. The Best New Artist category, however, will remain open for voting until showtime on 10 September.

Swift is in contention to win the prestigious Video of the Year award for the third year running, having already clinched the title four times previously. A win for "Fortnight" would make her the first artist to achieve a "three-peat" and the first to secure five wins in the category in VMAs history. Her past wins in the category were for "Anti-Hero" (2023), "All Too Well: The Short Film" (2022), "You Need to Calm Down" (2019), and "Bad Blood" (2015).

With a nearly three-month break from her Eras Tour starting in late August, Swift may be present to accept any awards she wins. Fans are also eagerly anticipating a possible announcement of the release date for "Reputation (Taylor's Version)," which she previously hinted at during the 2022 VMAs, where she revealed the launch of her "Midnights" album.

The nominees for Video of the Year include Grande's "We Can't Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)," Eilish's "Lunch," Doja Cat's "Paint the Town Red," Eminem's "Houdini," SZA's "Snooze," and the Swift/Malone collaboration "Fortnight."

Swift is also in the running for Artist of the Year, alongside her tourmate Carpenter, Grande, Bad Bunny, Eminem, and SZA. Carpenter's nomination for Artist of the Year is a notable achievement, as it marks her first-ever VMAs nominations.

Beyond her top nominations, Swift has been recognised in various categories for "Fortnight," including Song of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Pop, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Visual Effects, and Best Art Direction. She is also the only artist to be nominated in the Best Direction category for directing her own video.

Malone, who is yet to release a solo album, received his nine nominations through his collaborations with Swift on "Fortnight." He also received one nomination for a non-Swift track, scoring a second nomination in the Best Collaboration category for "I Had Some Help," the lead single from his upcoming country album featuring Morgan Wallen.

Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, and Charli XCX each have two nominations, joined by Drake, Jelly Roll, Bad Bunny, Coldplay, Latto, Jung Kook, Usher, Victoria Monet, Tate McRae, Sexyy Red, Rauw Alejandro, and Jessie Murph.

Beyoncé, whose "Cowboy Carter" album has generated significant buzz, received a single nomination for "Texas Hold ‘Em" in the Song of the Year category. Similarly, Shaboozey, whose "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" has topped the Billboard Hot 100 for four non-consecutive weeks, also secured a solitary nomination. Both artists submitted "visualizers" for consideration rather than full-length music videos, which the VMAs typically award.

The nominees for Best New Artist are Shaboozey, Boone, Roan, Swims, Tyla, and Gracie Abrams.

Other artists receiving their first-ever VMAs nominations include Carpenter, Wallen, Alexander Stewart, Burna Boy, Coco Jones, Flyana Boss, Gunna, Joyner Lucas, Laufey, Le Sserafim, Lojay, Myke Towers, NCT Dream, Pheelz, Playboi Carti, Raye, Tyler Childers, and The Warning. Many of these newcomers gained nominations through the MTV Push Performance of the Year category, celebrating artists featured in MTV's freshman artist initiative, or the Video for Good category, acknowledging socially conscious videos.

The nominations for social categories will be revealed at a later date.

The VMAs are executive produced by Bruce Gillmer and Den of Thieves co-founder Jesse Ignjatovic, with Barb Bialkowski as co-executive producer. Alicia Portugal and Jackie Barba are the executives in charge of production; Wendy Plaut is the executive in charge of celebrity talent; and Lisa Lauricella is the show's music talent executive.
