Stoke Mill Restaurant: Michelin Star Gone, But the Mill's Not Closing!

Stoke Mill, the historic Norwich restaurant renowned for its fine dining experience, is undergoing a transformation. While its Michelin-starred venture, STORE, is set to close its doors in September, the beloved restaurant itself will remain open.

This news follows the departure of head chef Liam Nichols, leading to widespread concern about the future of the Mill Road establishment. Owner Ludo Iaccarino has assured patrons that Stoke Mill, a cherished local landmark, is far from closure.

"It is true that STORE, our exceptional fine dining experience, is coming to an end, but Stoke Mill is not going anywhere," stated Ludo, who has been running the establishment since his father's passing in 2013.

He emphasised that Stoke Mill, Norfolk's oldest restaurant, continues to thrive despite the challenging economic climate. "It's a testament to its enduring appeal," he added.

In place of STORE, the former dining room will be transformed into a private dining space, offering a new tasting menu crafted by sous chef Hazel Yuill. This innovative menu will cater to parties of eight to sixteen guests, with the option for private dining at homes upon request. The new tasting experience will launch on September 1st.

"In essence, nothing is truly closing, just evolving," Ludo explained. "This change marks the start of a new chapter for the Mill, a fresh adventure for us all."

Stoke Mill's rich history dates back to 1814, when the Colmans family established a mustard mill powered by the local watercourse. Ludo's father, Rio Iaccarino, originally from Sorrento, Italy, acquired the property in the 1960s, transforming it into a high-end dining destination with a retro aesthetic.

Following Rio's passing, Ludo joined forces with renowned chef Andy Rudd, who assisted in restoring the mill to its current state.

While the departure of Liam Nichols marks a change for Stoke Mill, the restaurant's commitment to providing exceptional dining experiences remains unwavering. This transformation promises an exciting new chapter for the historic landmark, one that will continue to captivate local palates for years to come.
