Southampton Pride 2024: Everything You Need to Know

Southampton is set to be awash with colour and celebration this bank holiday weekend as the city hosts its extended Southampton Pride.

For the first time, the Big Pride Weekend will span two days, Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th August, offering a packed programme of entertainment and festivities.

The festivities kick off on Saturday morning with the Pride march, beginning at Queens Park at 11 am. The colourful procession will wind its way through the city, passing by the historic Bargate and continuing onto Above Bar Street before splitting into two groups.

This split is designed to minimise disruption for residents and visitors, with one group proceeding along Civic Centre Road and the other continuing along Above Bar Street.

The march will culminate in Guildhall Square, where the main event will take place.

Tens of thousands of people are expected to attend this year's event, making it the biggest LGBTI+ celebration in the region and marking nine years of Pride in Southampton.

The line-up boasts a diverse range of performers, promising something for everyone.

Pop music fans will be delighted by performances from Claire Richards of Steps fame, known for hits like "5, 6, 7, 8" and "Tragedy", and 80s pop icon Sonia, famed for her anthems "You'll Never Stop Me Loving You" and "Better the Devil You Know."

Drag enthusiasts are in for a treat with Baga Chipz, a star from RuPaul's Drag Race, taking to the stage alongside X Factor winner Matt Terry.

Other notable performers include Aura Jay, a triple-threat drag queen, American drag performer Dawn, and the first LGBTQ+ 'OUT' Elvis-themed act, Elberace.

Adding a touch of musical theatre, Aaron Elijah Patel will perform "Proud of Your Boy" from the upcoming production of Disney's Aladdin at the Mayflower Theatre.

A variety of music genres will be represented throughout the weekend, with performances from dynamic house vocalist Amrick Channa, vocalist and entertainer Jodi Griffin, Beyonce tribute Reyonce, and Beth Louise as Christina Aguilera.

Club 00's will provide a nostalgic journey back to the hits of the new millennium, while Adam Renz will deliver a dose of electrifying dance pop.

The event will also showcase the talents of local dance companies, including Method, Kailani, and Immersive.

Those looking for a touch of camp can catch Cherry Liquor, the "campest queen on the South Coast," or experience the ultimate Olly Alexander tribute with Starstruck.

Claire Deloon, dubbed the "Jane McDonald of drag," will bring her powerful vocals to the stage, ensuring a vibrant and entertaining weekend.

Organisers have reminded attendees to be aware of the banned items policy, which can be found on the Southampton Pride website.

With its diverse line-up and vibrant atmosphere, Southampton Pride 2024 promises to be an unforgettable celebration of love, acceptance, and community. The event is a testament to the city's growing commitment to inclusivity and diversity, offering a platform for expression and a chance to celebrate the LGBTI+ community.
