Slam DJs Return to Iconic Glasgow Venue After Decades

Scottish electronic music duo Slam are set to make a triumphant return to the legendary Platform venue in Glasgow, formerly known as The Arches, for a one-night-only event on Saturday, 26 October.

The pair, Stuart McMillan and Orde Meikle, spent the majority of their adult lives playing at The Arches, a venue synonymous with the rise of electronic music in Scotland. From 1992 to 2015, Slam's legendary "Slam" and "Pressure" club nights were a defining feature of Glasgow's nightlife, attracting a diverse and devoted following.

"We spent most of our adult life playing at The Arches, which were really special and exciting times when you look back," the duo said. "So, when the opportunity came up for us to return to the venue again, we were straight onboard."

The closure of The Arches in 2015 due to licensing issues left many fans yearning for one last party. "We never got the chance to throw one last party," Slam explained. "Going back in time isn't something we would normally consider, and when the venue was re-opened briefly last year, we were hesitant to get involved. Then we were inundated with messages on Facebook and Instagram asking why we weren't playing."

The impact of The Arches on Glasgow's cultural scene, and on Slam's careers, was undeniable. "The venue, and those times throughout the 90s, were really special to us, but we had no idea how life-changing it was to others," the DJs said.

The Arches' history is deeply intertwined with Slam's journey. Approached by Glasgow concert promoter Pete Irvine and theatre curator Andy Arnold in 1992, the duo began their career within the iconic arches of the venue. The venue rapidly gained popularity, becoming one of the largest and most sought-after club spaces in Glasgow.

Slam's Friday night club nights were legendary, attracting a diverse range of guests including the likes of Daft Punk, Laurent Garnier, and The Chemical Brothers.

Looking forward to their upcoming event, Slam shared their excitement: "We'll be playing all night long at Platform, and we're already looking through our collections to find some of the iconic tracks that made our nights at The Arches so special. We're looking forward to being back at our spiritual home back underneath those brick arches once more."

Pre-sale tickets for "Slam: Return To Source" will be available from Thursday, 15 August, with the general sale commencing on Friday, 16 August. Tickets can be purchased at ra.co/pre/1978367.
