Second Time's a Charm: Dowling & Gourounlian Embrace Fatherhood of Two

Brian Dowling and Arthur Gourounlian, known for their vibrant personalities and modern family, are thriving as dads of two. Their daughter Blu Amar Rose, born on June 23rd, has joined big sister Blake, born in September 2022.

"She and Blake have two things in common: They like to sleep and they like food," Dowling shared, highlighting the similarities between his daughters. Blu, described as a "quiet, relaxed, super chill baby," has already mastered the art of sleeping through the night, clocking in four to five hours each night.

While Blake initially exhibited some confusion at the arrival of her new sibling, she has quickly warmed up to Blu, showcasing her gentle and caring nature. "I think she understands this little person here is staying, going nowhere, so [she’s] got no choice," Gourounlian chuckled.

The couple chose the name Blu, a name Dowling had liked for both boys and girls, and Amar, meaning "summer" in Armenian, a fitting tribute to their June baby. Both daughters share the middle name Rose, a loving nod to Dowling's mother Rosie, who passed away in 2018.

Dowling and Gourounlian are open to expanding their family even further. While their surrogate Aoife is recovering well from the birth, they acknowledge the toll it has taken on her and plan to explore other avenues for future children. "It’s been, again, so amazing. What she’s done for us, it’s incredible," Gourounlian expressed, highlighting Aoife's incredible dedication.

The couple's career paths remain an important part of their lives. Dowling recently completed his work commitments before Blu's arrival, while Gourounlian is juggling freelance projects. They both recognize the unpredictable nature of their industry and are open to new opportunities. "You really have to take everything that comes to you and enjoy the ride," Gourounlian wisely shared.

Despite their busy schedules, Dowling and Gourounlian enjoy working together, having previously collaborated on a documentary and book about their modern family. "People always say, ‘oh my god, you could be the gay Ant and Dec’," Dowling joked, "We want to be the gay Richard and Judy." Gourounlian is optimistic about a return to RTÉ's Dancing With The Stars, aiming for his fourth season as a judge. "I’m crossing every finger I have on my body. I’m so privileged, I’ve done three seasons," he expressed his excitement.

With almost half a million combined Instagram followers, the couple has established a strong social media presence. Gourounlian embraces the platform, while Dowling focuses on sharing positive and fun content. "I believe social media is the best bits of your 24 hours, so I feel it should be fun, it should be positive," Dowling shared.

Their social media presence allows them to showcase their normal lives as a gay couple with children, challenging stereotypes. However, they acknowledge the occasional negativity. "That’s where social media is 90% great. There is that 10% where you’re a bit like, ‘people need to calm down’.”

Both Dowling and Gourounlian embrace a positive outlook on life, seizing every opportunity. "No matter what you go through in life, days are coming and going," Gourounlian emphasized. "They’re not waiting for you."

The couple will be judging the prestigious Barberstown Castle Sapphire Style Award at The Irish Oaks Weekend, an event where creativity and personality take center stage. They're excited for the summer ahead, spending time with their children and enjoying family time.
