Seafest: Music, Food & Historic Ships in Scarborough

This weekend, Scarborough's West Pier will be transformed into a vibrant hub of music, food, and history as the annual Seafest takes center stage. This free festival, a tradition for over 20 years, is organized by North Yorkshire Council and promises a weekend of entertainment for all.

The highlight of the event will undoubtedly be the live music, with local band The Feens, known for their energetic performances and previous appearances at the Isle of Wight Festival, taking the headlining spot. Freddie Schmuck, the band's lead singer, expressed excitement about returning to Seafest, stating, "We've got a lot more songs under our belt and more experience and it’s great to be able to headline the event this year."

Adding to the spectacle are two historic sailing ships docked in the harbor: the Galeón Andalucía, a replica of a 17th Century Spanish galleon, and the restored Nancy Blackett, famously owned by Arthur Ransome, author of the beloved "Swallows and Amazons" series.

Beyond the music and historic vessels, Seafest offers a delectable journey through culinary delights. Visitors can sample the creations of top regional chefs, showcasing the region's diverse culinary scene. Chef Chris Hobson will be highlighting the versatility of seaweed, an ingredient gaining popularity for its unique flavors and nutritional benefits. From sausages and tapas to barbecues and marmalade, Hobson will demonstrate the many ways seaweed can enhance the dining experience, emphasizing the rich bounty of the North Sea.

The festival culminates in a dazzling firework display on Saturday night, followed by a Northern Soul and Motown party, ensuring a vibrant and memorable end to the weekend.

Simon Myers, North Yorkshire Council's executive member for culture and art, emphasized the event's significance, saying, "Scarborough’s seafaring heritage is second to none and provides the perfect backdrop for the music and food that will be on offer at this year’s Seafest."

Seafest is more than just a festival; it's a celebration of Scarborough's rich history, its vibrant culinary scene, and the talent of local artists. It's a chance for residents and visitors alike to immerse themselves in the seaside town's unique character, enjoy a weekend of entertainment, and discover the treasures of the North Sea.
