Scotland's Best Croissant: Edinburgh Butter Company Hosts Baking Showdown
The Edinburgh Butter Company is stirring up excitement in the Scottish baking scene with the launch of the country's first-ever croissant competition. From home-based enthusiasts to professional pastry chefs, bakers across Scotland are invited to showcase their skills and compete for the coveted title of "Scotland's Best Croissant".
The competition, taking place in Edinburgh on Monday, 28 October, is open to all bakeries with a passion for the iconic French pastry. The only requirement? Each croissant must be crafted using The Edinburgh Butter Company's specially formulated sheet butter, designed to enhance the lamination process that gives croissants their signature flaky texture.
A panel of renowned judges, including leading pastry chefs Ross Sneddon, Darcie Maher, Kayleigh Turner, John Whaite, Milly Kenny-Ryder and Chloe Black, will meticulously assess the entrants' creations based on a series of criteria. Shape, colour, pastry development, texture and taste will all be considered to ensure that the best croissant, crafted with the utmost care and expertise, emerges victorious.
Chloe Black, Director of The Edinburgh Butter Company, expressed the company's motivation behind the competition: "At The Edinburgh Butter Company, we believe our cultured butter has long been a key ingredient in Scotland's finest viennoiserie. Weâve heard from our talented baker network about their desire for a competition dedicated to showcasing the artistry of croissant-making. We saw an opportunity to create an event that celebrates the quality of individual creations, giving every bakery in Scotland a platform to shine. This competition is our way of acknowledging their passion and dedication."
The prize for the winning bakery is a prestigious trophy and a special meal for two at Edinburgh's renowned restaurant Tipo. The second and third-place finishers will also be rewarded with a £150 voucher for Rackmaster bakery equipment and an Edinburgh Butter Company goodie bag, respectively.
The competition will be held at The Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh, from 9 am to 2 pm on 28 October. Judging will take place between 10.30 am and 12 pm, followed by an awards ceremony where winners will be announced. The event will also offer an opportunity for refreshments and networking among the passionate baking community.
