Scarborough Waterpark Reopens After "Superhuman Effort"

Alpamare, the popular waterpark in Scarborough, will reopen its doors to the public on July 24th after a period of closure and a monumental effort to revive the attraction.

The park, which closed in December after its previous owners, Benchmark Leisure Ltd, went into administration, has been taken over by new operator Flamingo Land. In collaboration with North Yorkshire Council, Flamingo Land CEO Gordon Gibb has overseen a significant amount of work to prepare the site for the summer season, describing the effort as "superhuman."

"I am delighted that we have managed to get this attraction back open in time for the busy school holidays," said Gareth Dadd, deputy leader of North Yorkshire Council. "Alpamare is a massive asset for the town, and securing Flamingo Land as the operator is key to its success."

The waterpark, overlooking North Bay, boasts a range of attractions including a wave pool, a splash and play pool, four slides, two outdoor pools, and a café. The spa and treatment area will open at a later date.

Flamingo Land has taken on a short-term lease until November while the council works to find a "permanent solution" for the waterpark's future. The council will be reviewing the attraction's commercial performance throughout the rest of the year and has not ruled out subsidizing the waterpark in the long term.

The waterpark's reopening marks a significant turnaround after its tumultuous history. Alpamare opened in 2016 but faced financial challenges. Last year, the council was forced to take over the park after the collapse of its former owners, who owed millions of pounds in loan repayments.

With the reopening of Alpamare, Scarborough residents and visitors can look forward to enjoying the thrill of water slides, the relaxation of the wave pool, and the charm of the North Bay vista once again.
