Sam Thompson's Emotional Plea for ADHD Understanding
Sam Thompson, the former Made In Chelsea star, shed tears while sharing advice with a young girl living with ADHD on "This Morning." The 31-year-old, newly appointed ambassador for ADHD UK, revealed his desire to make ADHD awareness his legacy, having been diagnosed himself at the age of 30.
Thompson, aiming to foster open conversations surrounding ADHD, encouraged the young girl to view her ADHD as a "superpower," a perspective he often embraces. He shared his own experience: "I was rubbish at everything I didn't like. But I love ancient history, so I'm really good at that. You can use it to your advantage."
His emotional message highlighted the importance of positive reinforcement for children diagnosed with ADHD, emphasizing that while difficulties exist, focusing on the strengths is crucial. "I know it sounds corny, but I want this to be my legacy," he admitted, his voice choked with emotion. "I hope that young girl never forgets that... When you are that young, you just need to hear the positives."
Thompson's advocacy for ADHD awareness comes after his own journey of self-discovery, documented in his Channel 4 documentary, "Is This ADHD?". He first shared his diagnosis during his time on "I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!" last year, stating he was "not ashamed" of his condition.
This public appearance comes amidst reports of a "one last shot" for his relationship with girlfriend Zara McDermott, following weeks of "crisis talks." The couple, together for four years, have faced relationship challenges stemming from allegations of inappropriate behavior by Zara's former "Strictly Come Dancing" partner, Graziano Di Prima.
Di Prima was sacked from the show following claims of hitting and kicking Zara during rehearsals last year. Although he apologized, stating it was a "singular incident," Zara's spokesperson refuted this claim, stating that the "conduct was not a singular incident."
Despite the challenges, both Zara and Sam are reportedly committed to working through their difficulties, hoping to salvage their relationship. A source close to the couple revealed, "There have been points theyâve thought about ending it. Ultimately, that [Graziano scandal] put extra stress and pressure on her and Sam. She feels her Strictly experience has been tarnished. There have been a lot of tears."
However, the source added, "They both have a lot of love for each other and are determined to try to give it one more go. They know what they have together and donât want to have any regrets. They are determined to fight to stay together."
