Ricky Gervais' £14.5m Hampstead Mansion: A "Not Forever Home" for the Comedian

Ricky Gervais has treated fans to a peek inside his newly acquired £14.5 million Hampstead mansion, a sprawling property boasting nine bedrooms, a spa, and a gym. The comedian, estimated to be worth £120 million, purchased the property in March, driven by a desire for a larger garden to accommodate his newfound passion for tennis.

Taking to Instagram, Gervais shared a glimpse of the grand entrance hall and its impressive marble staircase, as well as a sneak peek into his office space, where numerous awards already stand proudly on display.

However, during a recent vlog on X, Gervais admitted that this grand home may not be his "forever home". His long-term partner, Jane Fallon, expressed concerns about navigating the property's many stairs in their eighties.

"I thought the last house was the one I was going to die in," Gervais revealed. "But I didn't die, and I wanted a tennis court, so we had to move to a bigger house with a bigger garden just so we could get a tennis court. I just thought this is amazing, this is perfect. It's not even finished yet, but I love it."

He continued, "But the other day, Jane went 'we can't live here when we're 80'. So that's like a ticking clock. She said 'there's all these stairs'. So I'm going to be moving when I'm 80."

Gervais jokingly suggested a plan to mitigate the challenges of ageing in place: "But I said let's not move, let's just move in a load of doctors, nurses and security. I could have a team living inside. A driver, someone who I could play table tennis with, so that would be better. Moving at 80 with all this s**

again. I don't want to think about it. Jane did most of it anyway."

Gervais and Fallon, who have been together for over 40 years, previously resided in a £10.8 million home in Hampstead. Their portfolio also includes a riverside property in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, and two apartments in New York.

Their new Hampstead megamansion boasts a master bedroom with dressing rooms and his and hers en-suite bathrooms, along with a formal drawing room, dining room, a spacious kitchen/diner, a bar and wine cellar, and a gym with a "double height ceiling".

To make way for his tennis court, Gervais removed the existing basketball court, a move requiring planning permission from the local council. He also undertook a significant revamp of the grounds, removing an "outdated" waterwall, octagonal pagoda, and retaining walls.

The luxurious mansion stands in stark contrast to the couple's first home together, a one-bedroom flat in Kings Cross, London, which Gervais described as being "above some sort of seedy sauna".

Gervais' fortune has grown significantly in recent years, thanks to a lucrative exclusive deal with Netflix, which aired his latest comedy series, "After Life". His sold-out stand-up gigs, including his most recent tour, "Mortality", are also linked with the streaming giant.

Further bolstering his income are royalties from the hit BBC comedy, "The Office", which he co-wrote and created with Stephen Merchant. The release of a new US reboot this year is expected to generate additional revenue.

Speaking to GQ in 2013, Gervais acknowledged the substantial income generated by "The Office" and its various incarnations, particularly the US version starring Steve Carrel. "Yeah, [The Office US has earned me] more than anything else probably I've ever done. It's the gift that keeps on giving, syndication."
