Rema Confirms Huge Payday For Indian Wedding Performance, Defies Critics

Afrobeats superstar Rema has addressed recent reports claiming he received a staggering N4.5 billion for a performance at an extravagant Indian wedding. The rumours, initially reported by the Daily Sun, alleged Rema was hired to entertain at the wedding ceremony of Anant Ambani, son of Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani, and Radhika Merchant, daughter of pharmaceutical entrepreneurs Viren and Shaila Merchant.

In a recent interview with GRM Daily, Rema confirmed his involvement in the lavish event, calling it a significant milestone in his career. While declining to disclose the exact figure, he acknowledged the payment was substantial.

When questioned about the widely circulated $3 million fee, Rema responded with a chuckle, stating, “Hehehe, that is all I can say to be honest. Money-wise, it was a great achievement, it was beautiful.”

He went on to express his fondness for India and its warm reception of his music, adding, “I love India and India loves me too. It just feels good to see something that people trolled me for, criticised me for, and I am benefiting off of that. Imagine if I had stopped, imagine if I had listened to the trolls, and I think I feel I have to switch it up, and four years later it paid and it paid big.”

The wedding itself was a star-studded affair, attracting A-list celebrities from across the globe, including the Kardashians, John Cena, and Canadian singer Justin Bieber, who also performed at the event.

Rema's confirmation of the substantial fee further solidifies his position as a rising star in the international music scene, highlighting the growing appeal of Afrobeats worldwide. His decision to embrace the opportunity despite initial criticism demonstrates his determination to defy expectations and achieve success on his own terms.
