Pro Wrestling Icon Sid Vicious Passes Away at 63

Sid Eudy, the legendary professional wrestler known for his intimidating presence and powerful performances under the ring names Sid Justice, Sid Vicious, and Sycho Sid, has passed away at the age of 63. His son, Gunnar Eudy, announced the news on social media, revealing that his father had been battling cancer for several years.

"I am deeply saddened to share that my father, Sid Eudy, has passed away after battling cancer for several years," Gunnar wrote on Facebook. "He was a man of strength, kindness, and love, and his presence will be greatly missed. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers as we grieve this loss. Details for a memorial service will be shared soon. Thank you for your support."

WWE, the world-renowned wrestling organisation, confirmed Eudy's passing on X (formerly Twitter), extending its condolences to his family, friends, and fans.

The Arkansas-born wrestler began his career in 1987 with Continental Championship Wrestling, where he adopted the persona of Lord Humongous. This imposing figure, standing at 6'9", quickly made a name for himself, winning the NWA Southeastern Heavyweight Championship later that year and forming a tag team with Shane Douglas to capture the NWA Southeastern Tag Team Championship.

Following his time in NWA and a brief stint with World Championship Wrestling (WCW), Eudy entered the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), now known as WWE, in 1991. He initially wrestled as Sid Justice, quickly becoming a prominent figure, challenging Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania VIII and engaging in heated rivalries with The Ultimate Warrior.

Eudy returned to WCW in 1993, adopting the name Sid Vicious. His arrival marked a significant change in the WCW landscape, as he immediately clashed with Van Hammer before teaming up with Vader to challenge Sting's faction. Their intense rivalry culminated in a WarGames match at Fall Brawl and a one-on-one confrontation at Halloween Havoc, both of which saw Sting's team emerge victorious.

After brief stints with the United States Wrestling Association (1994-1996) and a return to WWF, Eudy captured the WWF Championship in 1996, defeating Shawn Michaels. He later successfully defended his title against Bret Hart before losing it to The Undertaker at WrestleMania 13.

Eudy was released from WWF in 1997 due to a neck injury that required surgery. While recovering, he made sporadic appearances in independent wrestling circuits, Mexican promotions, and Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW).

He returned to WCW in 1999 and once again achieved championship glory, defeating Kevin Nash to become the WCW World Heavyweight Champion. However, his tenure with WCW was cut short before WWF acquired the company.

A near career-ending injury occurred in 2000 when Eudy attempted a boot from the second turnbuckle on Scott Steiner, resulting in a serious neck injury. Doctors initially told him he would never wrestle again, leading him to consider retirement.

Despite the setback, Eudy made sporadic appearances in various wrestling promotions until 2017, refusing to let his passion for the sport fade completely.

The wrestling community has expressed their condolences to Eudy's family on social media, highlighting his impact on the industry and acknowledging his legacy as a formidable and captivating wrestler.

Sid Eudy's passing marks the loss of a true wrestling icon, a man who brought power, intensity, and charisma to the squared circle, leaving an enduring mark on the world of professional wrestling.
