Princess of Wales Underwent Surgery for Lump as Teenager

New revelations from a royal biography detail a previously unknown health challenge faced by Kate Middleton, now the Princess of Wales, during her teenage years.

According to Rob Jobson's book, "Catherine, The Princess of Wales," the Princess underwent surgery to remove a lump from her head while attending Marlborough College. The incident, which occurred before her entry into the public eye, highlights a lesser-known aspect of her personal history.

Jobson writes that the school immediately notified Kate's parents, and her mother, Carole Middleton, took her to hospital for the procedure. The surgery left a three-inch scar, which was noticed during Kate's first solo engagement in 2001. A brief statement released by the Palace at the time simply acknowledged the scar as "related to a childhood operation."

This revelation comes following the Princess's recent battle with cancer. In March, she revealed that she had been diagnosed with the disease after undergoing planned abdominal surgery. While initially believed to be non-cancerous, further tests confirmed the diagnosis.

In a video message, Kate shared her solidarity with those affected by cancer, stating that she would be taking time away from public duties to undergo preventative chemotherapy. She returned to public life in June, making a welcome appearance at the Trooping the Colour, the King's official birthday parade.

Kate's subsequent appearance at Wimbledon this month, where she presented the trophies on the final day, was met with a standing ovation. Despite her ongoing treatment, the Princess has expressed gratitude for the support she has received and has highlighted the challenges of chemotherapy.

In a statement ahead of her return to public life, Kate acknowledged the ups and downs of her treatment, stating: “On those bad days you feel weak, tired and you have to give in to your body resting. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well.”

The Princess's treatment is expected to continue for several more months, and it is anticipated that she will be taking some time away from public duties as she focuses on her health.
