Royal Mail has reported the latest case of postbox vandalism in Kent to the police, just six months after a series of paint jobs depicting popular sweets and characters like Mr Blobby and Creme Eggs.
This time, residents of Temple Hill, Dartford, discovered their iconic red postboxes transformed to resemble chocolate bars. One postbox was painted purple with "Wispa" scrawled in red paint down the side, while another was painted black to resemble a Mars bar. A third received the Twirl treatment, with a bright yellow and red colour scheme.
Royal Mail confirmed they were aware of the "vandalism" and have initiated investigations to determine the full extent of the damage. They stated that further inquiries are underway and that they have contacted the police.
This latest incident follows the February spree, where five postboxes were decorated on various roads in the Dartford area. The culprits transformed these postal pillars into vibrant representations of Mr Blobby, Cadbury's Creme Eggs, and even a pink postbox with yellow spots, googly eyes, and a red-painted slot resembling lips.
The mysterious artist behind these colourful transformations, dubbed "Danksy" at the time, ignited debate among locals. While some worried that the painted postboxes detracted from the area's aesthetics, others embraced the playful alterations and the unexpected pop of colour.
The ongoing investigation by Royal Mail and the police aims to identify the perpetrator of this latest vandalism spree and ensure that these public assets are restored to their original state. While the community continues to be divided on the artistic merit of these postbox makeovers, the question remains: who is "Danksy" and what will their next artistic target be?
