Phineas and Ferb: Beloved Cartoon Duo Set for Summer Comeback

The creators of the cherished Disney show *Phineas and Ferb

have revealed plans for a much-anticipated revival, bringing the iconic characters back to the screens. Dan Povenmire and Jeff Marsh, the duo behind the original series, shared their excitement at a panel at D23, Disney's fan event in California.

The news came with an emotional edge as the pair presented a sneak peek of the upcoming series. The teaser, a rough animatic, showcased the original characters singing a brand new song about a "brand new summer vacation." The original show ran for four successful seasons from 2007 to 2015, leaving a lasting impact on audiences. A subsequent film, *Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Candace Against The Universe*, premiered in 2020, further solidifying the franchise's popularity.

The new series boasts a returning cast, with High School Musical star Ashley Tisdale reprising her role as Candace Flynn. The teaser offered a glimpse of her singing the new summer tune, generating excitement among fans.

Povenmire revealed a surprising collaboration for the revival: renowned TikTok choreographer Cost n’ Mayor, who was tasked with crafting dance sequences for the new summer song. The original series saw Povenmire personally sketching many of the dance poses, but with a hectic reboot schedule, he sought outside expertise.

Speaking about the revival, Povenmire expressed his initial apprehensions, acknowledging the "pulling teeth" aspect of rebooting a beloved franchise. However, he revealed the experience has been overwhelmingly positive, with the creative process exceeding expectations. He highlighted the show's "energy" and "elevation," attributing it to the break the creators enjoyed after the original run.

“Eight or nine episodes of this season alone will be some people’s favourite episodes of all time," he confidently declared.

The creative team behind the reboot consists of both original writers and new voices. Half the writing team consists of writers who contributed to the original show, while the other half comprises individuals who grew up watching the series. Olivia Olson, the voice of Vanessa Doofenshmirtz, also returns, this time as a writer for the new series.

Povenmire and Marsh, who first met on the set of *The Simpsons*, shared the origins of *Phineas and Ferb*. They revealed their initial sketches of the characters, dating back to 1992, which are now proudly framed in Marsh's home. The journey to bringing *Phineas and Ferb

to the screen was not without its hurdles. Despite pitching the show to various networks, Disney initially declined the project, opting for a female-focused program. However, they soon recognised the show's potential and greenlit the project in 2005.

“We created the show and then didn’t work together for 13 years,” Povenmire joked.

Povenmire also hinted at his ambitious plans for the franchise's future, expressing his desire to create a *Phineas and Ferb

rollercoaster at Disneyland. He playfully suggested "skinning" the existing Rock 'n' Roller Coaster to achieve his vision.

The news of season five has fans eagerly anticipating the return of the dynamic duo. Although an official release date remains elusive, Povenmire assures audiences that the new season will deliver some of the franchise's "best stuff yet".
