Panic Attack Halted Strictly Rehearsals

Kym Marsh, a popular TV and theatre star, experienced a severe panic attack during rehearsals for the 2022 season of Strictly Come Dancing. The incident, which forced a complete halt to the session, sheds light on the intense pressure faced by contestants on the beloved BBC show.

Marsh, known for her roles in Coronation Street and her recent stint as Cruella De Vil in the UK tour of "101 Dalmatians: The Musical," was partnered with professional dancer Graziano Di Prima for the season. While the pair appeared to be a strong match, the pressure of the competition took its toll on Marsh, who has been open about her history of anxiety and depression.

Reports from November 2022 described a harrowing scene backstage, where Marsh struggled to breathe and was left in tears as producers attempted to calm her. The anxiety was so intense that rehearsals were ultimately stopped to allow Marsh to recover. Despite the setback, she managed to regain her composure and deliver a stunning Quickstep performance with Di Prima later that weekend.

An onlooker at the time described the situation, stating, "She was very upset, she just couldn't stop crying and hyperventilating." Another source added, "Kym doesn't mind admitting she suffers from anxiety and panic attacks. That sort of thing can catch her out."

Despite her early exit from the show, Marsh and Di Prima developed a strong bond, with Marsh describing him as "one of her family members." The two even arranged sleepovers, highlighting the close friendship that blossomed during their time on Strictly.

The incident has resurfaced following Di Prima's recent removal from this year's Strictly line-up due to allegations of "gross misconduct." While Di Prima and his partner Zara McDermott appeared to have a positive dynamic on camera, video footage emerged revealing "physical incidents" involving Zara, including allegations of Di Prima hitting, kicking, and spitting at her during rehearsals.

In response to the accusations, the BBC swiftly acted, removing Di Prima from the show and offering support to Zara within four days. Di Prima has since issued a public apology, attributing his actions to "passion and determination to win" that may have "affected [his] training regime." Zara has yet to publicly comment on the situation.

Di Prima's departure follows the exit of another professional dancer, Giovanni Pernice, who is facing multiple complaints of misconduct. While Pernice denies any wrongdoing, three of his nine former partners have come forward with complaints to the BBC.

The investigation into Pernice's conduct is ongoing, and he has hired a legal team to defend his reputation. In light of these events, Aljaz Å korjanec, a former Strictly professional, has been announced as a returning dancer for the upcoming season.

As the controversy surrounding the show continues, viewers await the return of Strictly Come Dancing later this year, hoping for a season filled with captivating performances and a renewed focus on inclusivity and respect.
