Okanagan Hobbit House: A Slice of Middle-earth Up for Sale

Nestled amidst the picturesque Okanagan Highlands, just a short drive from Osoyoos, British Columbia, lies a whimsical haven straight out of J.R.R. Tolkien's beloved fantasy world: the Second Breakfast Hideaway. This unique hobbit house is now on the market, offering a rare opportunity to own a piece of Middle-earth magic.

The property, which was previously ranked among the top 26 locations for unique minibreaks in Canada according to Airbnb data, was acquired by current owner Christina Le Comte in 2020. The charming abode boasts a cosy kitchenette, a crackling fireplace, a dreamy bedroom and an inviting outdoor fire pit, all set on a spacious, secluded plot where guests can indulge their imaginations.

“People show up and they are just so overwhelmed, they start crying. It's incredible to see the reactions,” Le Comte shared. "They bring costumes, hairy feet, ears, beards, and cloaks. It's amazing to see people get so excited to be somewhere they can be a child again, where nobody's watching.”

Le Comte has hosted over 1,000 guests at her Bridesville property, but now feels the time has come to pass the torch. The miniature shire and the 400-acre property it sits on are now available for purchase.

“It’s time to move on and for the next person to take care of the property," said Le Comte. "And take it to the next level, or any level they want, because there's so much untapped potential I haven't even scratched the surface of.”

The Hobbit Hole, meticulously modelled after the iconic film series The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, is not the only structure on the property. A house, a cabin and two barns are also included in the sale, with the entire estate listed online at £1.8 million.

Le Comte hopes that the next owners will continue to welcome short-term renters, ensuring the property remains a magical escape for those seeking a whimsical getaway.

“I think it should continue to be rented out and maybe expanded on,” she said. “People just love it so much and it's so much fun to see the joy it brings to people.”

The next chapter in the Second Breakfast Hideaway's story is waiting to be written. Will you be the next caretaker of this enchanting piece of Middle-earth?
