Nic Nemeth Claims TNA World Championship at Slammiversary

The TNA World Championship has a new owner: Nic Nemeth, better known to wrestling fans as Dolph Ziggler. In a thrilling six-way elimination match at Slammiversary, Nemeth emerged victorious, capturing the prestigious title.

The main event featured a star-studded lineup: reigning champion Moose, Joe Hendry, Frankie Kazarian, Josh Alexander, and Steve Maclin all vying for the championship. A sold-out crowd at the Verdun Auditorium in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, was on the edge of their seats as the action unfolded.

The match saw Hendry eliminate Moose, setting the stage for a dramatic conclusion. However, the tide turned when Alexander turned on Hendry, delivering a low blow and pinning him, followed by a brutal attack.

Nemeth and Alexander then engaged in a fierce back-and-forth battle. Ultimately, Nemeth's signature superkick proved decisive, securing him the victory and the TNA World Championship.

Despite a valiant effort, Kazarian narrowly missed out on a memorable victory, as Nemeth managed to kick out of a near-fall submission.

While Nemeth celebrated his championship triumph, Slammiversary was a night of thrilling action and title changes across the board. Jordynne Grace successfully defended her Knockouts Championship against Ash by Elegance. The Rascalz, returning to action, defeated the team of Charlie Dempsey, Myles Borne, and Tavion Heights.

Chris Bey and Ace Austin secured the tag titles, overcoming Brian Myers and Eddie Edwards. PCO, making a triumphant homecoming, captured the Digital Media Championship in a hard-fought victory over AJ Francis. "Speedball" Mike Bailey also delighted the Montreal crowd by defeating Mustafa Ali for the X Division title. TNA Hall of Famer Earl Hebner played a pivotal role in ensuring a fair contest, refusing to allow Ali to cheat.

Despite Hendry's popularity and a strong showing, he fell short of claiming the world title. His focus will now shift to Alexander, who is poised to become a formidable heel. A potential program between Hendry and Nemeth is also a possibility, especially if Hendry maintains his current momentum.

The main event finish left some fans disappointed, as Hendry's momentum and popularity had led many to believe he would be crowned champion. However, the title was not destined for him, as many predicted prior to the event.

Some question whether crowning a former WWE talent, even one as skilled as Nemeth, as champion is the right move, especially considering his earlier near-miss for the title at Rebellion. The opportunity to create a TNA moment, a defining moment for the brand, was arguably missed, with Kazarian or Alexander potentially offering a more fitting outcome.

Nemeth's reign begins under a cloud of fan discontent, as the crowd was clearly rooting for Hendry. TNA's creative team seems more comfortable with Hendry as a challenger. Nonetheless, Nemeth's championship reign will be a captivating watch, and it remains to be seen if Hendry can reclaim his place in the main event scene at Bound for Glory this fall.
