Neighbours and Prisoner Star Janet Andrewartha Dies at 72

Australian actress Janet Andrewartha, known for her roles in the popular soap operas *Neighbours

and *Prisoner: Cell Block H*, has passed away at the age of 72.

Andrewartha died peacefully on Friday in Melbourne, surrounded by her daughters Eloise and Sarah.

The news of her death was announced on Sunday by *Neighbours*, who shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram. The post highlighted Andrewartha's enduring legacy, stating: "Everyone at *Neighbours

is deeply saddened by the passing of Janet Andrewartha. Beloved by viewers for her role as Ramsay Street's Lyn Scully, Janet will be remembered for her wide body of work, which includes her memorable turn as Reb Keane in *Prisoner: Cell Block H*."

The post also included a moving message from Jackie Woodburne, a close friend and fellow *Neighbours

cast member: "Janet was one of the finest actors of her generation, but more than that, she was an extraordinary woman. Passionate, political, curious, delightfully eccentric, generous and fun. To me she was a steadfast friend for over 45 years. I will miss her every day."

Andrewartha's career spanned decades, starting as a music teacher before she pursued her passion for acting. After graduating from drama school, she landed numerous television and theatre roles, with *Neighbours

and *Prisoner* becoming her most celebrated achievements.

She appeared in *Neighbours

from 1999 until 2006, making occasional appearances until 2019. Her portrayal of Lyn Scully cemented her place in the hearts of fans.

Beyond her soap opera roles, Andrewartha graced the screens in other popular Australian series, including *Blue Heeler

and *A Country Practice*. More recently, she starred in the Paramount+ series *Fake* alongside Asher Keddie, playing the character of Kath Tovey.

However, theatre held a special place in Andrewartha's heart. She actively participated in numerous productions with the Melbourne Theatre Company and Playbox Theatre Company, further showcasing her versatility and dedication to the arts.

Upon news of Andrewartha's passing, her former *Neighbours

colleagues expressed their grief and remembrance. Stefan Dennis wrote: "So very upset to lose the lovely Janet. As Jackie said, she truly was an exceptional actress who was a pleasure work with and to be around. We will all miss you dear girl."
