Moving On: Torrey DeVitto Opens Up About "The Vampire Diaries" and Her Divorce
Torrey DeVitto, known for her role as Dr. Meredith Fell in *The Vampire Diaries*, has spoken candidly about the aftermath of her divorce from co-star Paul Wesley and how it impacted her career. The actress, who was married to Wesley from 2011 to 2013, shared her experience on Rachel Bilson's podcast, *Broad Ideas*, revealing that she went through a "really dark time" following the split.
DeVitto, now 40, explained that the public nature of their divorce, combined with Wesley's rising fame from the popular show, put her in the spotlight. She felt uncomfortable and decided to distance herself from *The Vampire Diaries*, even though she had been invited back for more episodes.
"I was [on it], but I only did like six episodes. And then once we were splitting up I was like, 'Pfft, not going back there,'" DeVitto recalled. "I'm not that kind of person that's like, 'Well, this is business, I can stay.' It's like, no. I don't want to come back. I'm good, thank you."
The actress also revealed that the public scrutiny after the divorce was overwhelming. Fans, who were invested in Wesley's character Stefan Salvatore on the show, felt strongly about his personal life and judged DeVitto harshly.
"That did garner a bit of attention in a way that I don't think I was prepared for," she said. "And then it was hard too because for a couple years, anybody that I would date afterwards, people would just [say], 'He's so disgusting. He'll never be [Wesley]. How could you do this?'"
DeVitto found the intense scrutiny "mortifying," as she felt fans were projecting their idealized perception of Wesley onto him, failing to acknowledge him as an individual.

in 2007 and tied the knot in a private ceremony four years later. Their separation was announced in 2013, with a statement from Wesley's representative stating they had "decided to amicably split" and would "continue to remain good friends."

co-star Phoebe Tonkin and was married to Ines de Ramon, who is now dating Brad Pitt. He is currently dating model Natalie Kuckenberg.
