Vince Torres, England's Mister Universe hopeful, is on a mission to represent not just his country, but also the LGBTQ+ community. Born into a traditional Catholic family in Elche, Spain, Vince's journey has been marked by both personal and professional challenges related to his sexuality.

"Our community found it very difficult to accept my sexuality," Vince shares. "I think the UK is progressive in comparison to Spain," he adds, explaining his decision to represent Britain in the global male beauty pageant.

Vince's experience highlights the disparities in LGBTQ+ acceptance and support between countries. He points to the accessibility of sexual health testing and medications like PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) in the UK, contrasting it with the situation in Spain. While acknowledging progress in the UK, he emphasizes the need for continued change.

The 31-year-old, now based in London, is preparing for the Mister Universe finals on September 29th, 2024. He is determined to use his platform to raise awareness about LGBTQ+ issues and advocate for inclusivity.

Vince's journey has not been without its obstacles. He has faced employment discrimination in England, a harrowing experience that led him to suffer from depression and mental health issues. His determination to overcome these challenges has led him to volunteer with AKT, a London-based charity supporting LGBTQ+ homeless youth.

Vince's Mister Universe journey is a blend of physical preparation, showcasing his country's cultural heritage, and advocating for change. He is working with a personal trainer, Adam Enaz, to perfect his physique. He is also collaborating with costume designers from the hit series *Bridgerton

Vince's coming-out story reflects his commitment to supporting the LGBTQ+ community. He came out at 14, facing prejudice in his Catholic family and schools. "I felt so lonely and isolated," he recounts. His experience has fueled his passion for working with AKT, where he is dedicated to supporting those facing homelessness and discrimination. He plans to donate a portion of his prize money to the organization.

Vince's vision for the future of LGBTQ+ rights is clear. "There are still communities and workplaces where there is blatant inequality based on sexual orientation," he states. He sees the Mister Universe platform as an opportunity to amplify LGBTQ+ voices and call for greater understanding and acceptance.
