Maya Jama and Stormzy Split After Nearly a Decade Together

British presenter Maya Jama and rapper Stormzy have announced their separation after almost a decade together. The couple, who had been dating on and off since 2014, shared a joint statement on Instagram, revealing the difficult decision they had made.

“We’ve been laughing whilst drafting this because we never, ever, in a million years thought we’d be the couple announcing a breakup,” the statement read. “But for the sake of clarity and, more importantly, to allow us the space and grace that’s needed for us both to be able to navigate this next bit of our lives with peace, we thought it might be best to.”

The couple's statement detailed the highs and lows of their long-term relationship. They fell deeply in love in 2014, navigating their early careers together. However, they parted ways in 2019, only to rekindle their romance five years later in August 2023. Despite their efforts, they ultimately decided to call it quits.

“We were 21 and 20 when we first met – both at the beginning of our careers – and spent five years growing together and then five years growing separately,” the statement continued. “So this final attempt required a whole lot of figuring out, relearning, and…”

While acknowledging the end of their romantic journey, they expressed continued respect and affection for one another.

“We still think the absolute world of each other, we still care and respect each other, we are still grateful for the time we’ve had together, and we are still friends and will always be friends (so if you see us having a lil catch-up at The Brits or something, don’t cause a fuss, we are dawgs!).”

The statement concluded with a plea for privacy as they move forward individually.

“Announcing this feels so dramatic, but we’re doing it so that it kind of takes away the drama and avoids speculation and rumours,” they wrote. “We’re kindly asking for the grace to let both of us keep it moving and not be bothered about it (we highly doubt this’ll work, but we’re still kindly asking anyway). Love you guys and thank you for all the love you’ve showered us with, it’s been beautiful! Mike & MJ x.”

The news of their separation comes just a few months after the couple appeared to be thriving, publicly sharing their affection at Glastonbury Festival in June. They had previously offered a glimpse into their relationship in a sweet TikTok video earlier in the year, delighting fans with their playful dynamic.

While the couple's initial meeting took place in 2014, they didn't publicly confirm their relationship until 2016. After their initial breakup in 2019, they reconciled in October 2023, rekindling hope for a lasting future.
