Mark Rylance and J Smith-Cameron Lead Star-Studded Cast in "Juno and the Paycock" Revival
The complete cast has been announced for a highly anticipated revival of Sean O'Casey's classic play "Juno and the Paycock", set to open at the Gielgud Theatre on 21 September.
The production will feature the renowned actor Mark Rylance, known for his roles in "Jerusalem" and "Dr Semmelweiss", alongside J Smith-Cameron, famed for her performance in the hit television series "Succession". Together they will bring to life the story of a working-class Dublin family's hopes and struggles as they face the prospect of a sudden inheritance. The play, originally written in 1924, was later adapted into a film by Alfred Hitchcock in 1930.
Matthew Warchus, Artistic Director of the Old Vic, will direct this new production, bringing his considerable experience to the helm.
Joining Rylance and Smith-Cameron on stage is a stellar ensemble cast. Paul Hilton will take on the role of 'Joxer' Daly, while Aisling Kearns and Eimhin Fitzgerald Doherty will portray Mary and Johnny Boyle respectively. Ingrid Craigie will embody Mrs Tancred, with Anna Healy as Mrs Maisie Madigan. The remaining roles will be filled by Chris Walley as Charles Bentham, Seán Duggan as 'Needle' Nugent, Leo Hanna as Jerry Devine, and a talented ensemble including Jessica Cervi, Caolan McCarthy, Bryan Moriarty, John Rice, and Jacinta Whyte.
The creative team behind this revival promises a visually captivating experience. Rob Howell is responsible for set and costume design, with Hugh Vanstone providing the lighting and Claire van Kampen composing the music. Serena Hill has expertly assembled the cast as casting director.
To make the production accessible to a wider audience, the theatre has implemented a tiered ticketing system. Over 1100 tickets per week are available for £25 or less, with more than one third of seats in the house priced at £55 or less for every performance. Additionally, 1260 tickets at £30 will be available for those under 30, and there will be £25 day seats for each performance. The theatre will also be releasing additional £25 seats and £10 standing spots weekly.
