Made In Chelsea's Spencer Matthews: "We Were Paid to Create Drama"

Spencer Matthews, known for his controversial stint on the E4 reality show *Made In Chelsea*, has revealed that cast members were offered financial incentives to stir up drama for the cameras.

The 36-year-old, who rose to fame for his villainous on-screen persona during the show's early seasons, admitted that much of the conflict viewers witnessed was influenced by producers' desire for heightened drama. He made these revelations while appearing on the *High Performance

podcast, where he candidly discussed his time on the show and the impact it had on his life.

"Even if you're an undramatic person or someone who hates confrontation, you will be thrust into confrontation and drama," Matthews explained. "And actually, you know, we were praised for creating drama. In some cases – I'm sure I'll probably get into trouble for saying this – we'd be given bonuses if we created certain levels of drama. But then you get lost in this whirlpool of drama thinking you're just doing a good job."

Matthews, who left the show in 2015 and has since settled down with presenter Vogue Williams, admitted that while the show felt "pretty real" in its early days, it gradually became more manufactured as producers sought to enhance the drama for viewers.

"Producers started to dramatise normal situations," he explained. "You'd do a scene with someone, they'd be really bent out of shape about something, and then the cameras would stop and they'd be fine. And it was like 'well are you psed off or are you not psed off, I don't really get it?' I'm not suggesting by the way that what you see on in *Made in Chelsea

isn't real, but it's certainly elaborated and dramatised."

The reality star also admitted to being heavily influenced by alcohol during his time on the show, stating that he was "drunk for a lot of *Made in Chelsea

and on some rampage." He expressed regret for his behaviour, stating that he "doesn't even really recognise the person that I was back then."

Matthews, who is now sober and a father of three, says that he would be mortified for his children to see his past behaviour. "I thought it was really cool just not to give a s**t about anything or anyone," he said. "I'm just going do whatever I want all of the time, and if you don't like it, then you can do one. And I just think that's a bit lame, to be honest. It's not how I'd encourage my boys to be, or my girl."

Matthews' candid reflections on his *Made In Chelsea

experience come as he embarks on an extraordinary challenge: running 30 marathons in 30 days across the desert in the peak of summer for Global's Make Some Noise charity. The ambitious feat, which aims to break the Guinness World Record for the "most consecutive marathons on sand," has seen Matthews battle through extreme heat, debilitating sleep deprivation, and relentless fly attacks.

Despite the gruelling conditions, Matthews remains determined to complete the challenge, stating that the cause is driving him forward. His journey serves as a testament to his commitment to personal growth and a far cry from the carefree, often reckless, character he presented on *Made In Chelsea*.
