Lauryn Hill & Fugees US Tour Cancelled: Fans Left High & Dry Again

Lauryn Hill & Fugees US Tour Cancelled: Fans Left High & Dry Again

The much-anticipated reunion tour of Lauryn Hill and The Fugees, set for late summer and autumn 2024, has been abruptly cancelled. The news came as a shock to fans, with Ticketmaster removing the dates and ticketholders receiving refund notifications on Tuesday evening.

No official explanation has been given for the cancellation. Representatives for Hill and the tour promoter, Live Nation, have not responded to requests for comment.

Ticketholders took to social media, sharing screenshots of a message from Live Nation simply stating: "Your event has been cancelled. A refund will be on its way to your account soon."

The tour was due to kick off on Friday in Tampa, Florida, with the US leg culminating at the Hollywood Bowl on 17 September, followed by shows in New York and New Jersey on 20-21 September. Other cities on the cancelled schedule included Atlanta, Philadelphia, Dallas, Houston and Milwaukee, totalling 18 US dates.

Despite the US leg being completely axed, tickets remain on sale for the overseas portion of the tour, which is scheduled to commence in Manchester, England on 12 October and conclude in Amsterdam on 22 October, with performances in London and Paris in between. It remains uncertain whether these dates will also be cancelled or if they will proceed as planned.

Hill’s social media channels have not been updated with any information regarding the tour cancellation. Her most recent tweet on X (formerly Twitter) dates back to the tour announcement in late June.

This marks the third consecutive year that Hill and her reunited group have cancelled some or all of their tour dates, leaving fans increasingly frustrated and disappointed.

In November 2023, Hill and The Fugees were mid-tour when she announced the postponement of the remaining dates, citing serious vocal strain. She explained she had been relying on prescribed prednisone to get through the performances, but the long-term effects of the medication were concerning. She stated she needed time to fully recover her voice and discontinue the medication.

The reunion tour was originally announced in 2021, but was postponed and ultimately cancelled in January 2022 due to ongoing COVID-19 concerns.

Despite the numerous cancellations, Hill and The Fugees did perform select dates last year, which were generally well-received by fans. In fact, *Variety

included their performance at Los Angeles’ Forum in their list of the best concerts of 2023.

Prior to the official announcement of the 2024 tour in June, Hill had undertaken a handful of one-off performances earlier in the year, in locations including Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Canada and Las Vegas. She also performed at the BET Awards on 30 June.

The sudden cancellation of the US leg of the tour has left many fans wondering about the future of the reunion tour and the reasons behind the cancellations. As of now, the fate of the European dates remains unclear, leaving fans in a state of uncertainty and disappointment.
