Katy Perry's Flag Fiasco: Fans Correct Singer Ahead of Euro 2024 Final

Pop star Katy Perry faced a wave of corrections from fans after she shared a message of support for the England football team in the Euro 2024 final, mistakenly using the Union Jack instead of the England flag.

Perry, known for hits like "Roar," took to X, formerly Twitter, to express her excitement for the highly anticipated match between England and Spain, which kicked off at 8 pm in Berlin, Germany. She penned, "football is coming home" alongside the United Kingdom flag.

Fans were quick to point out the error, with many commenting the correct England flag – a red cross on a white background. "England [flag] ≠ United Kingdom [flag]," one fan wrote, while another added, "This is the flag: [England flag] You're welcome."

One fan jokingly wrote, "Thanks sis next time try to use the correct flag."

This gaffe came as England prepared for a challenging match against a dominant Spanish side. Spain had won all six of their matches in the tournament, while England had drawn four out of six, leading to them being labeled as underdogs.

Despite the odds, England manager Gareth Southgate delivered a powerful message to his team, urging them to fulfill their dreams. "I don't believe in fairytales, but I am a believer in dreams, and we have big dreams, but you have to make those things happen," Southgate told his players.

He acknowledged the team's recent struggles, including late goals and penalty shootouts, but emphasized the need for performance. "We have to get this trophy to get the respect of the rest of the football world," Southgate added, referencing England's last major trophy win in 1966.

England captain Harry Kane also expressed his desire to go one step further than the team's heartbreaking loss to Italy in the Euro 2020 final at Wembley. "A lot of us after that final, we were obviously heartbroken with the result, as always a long journey back to getting where we are now," Kane said. "Full credit to the boys for the resilience that we've shown."

Despite the pressure, Southgate remained confident in his team's preparation, stating that their long-term vision had been consistently implemented. "We haven't had too much time on the training pitch, but we've had several meetings trying to assess the opponent, work out the best way to play against them," he said.

"But our messages haven't really changed throughout the six or seven weeks we've been together – we've had a long-term vision, and we've always broken that down into smaller pieces."

England faced a formidable challenge in Spain, but with the unwavering support of their fans and the determined leadership of Southgate, the Three Lions were ready to chase their dream of bringing football home.
