Renowned Japanese voice actress Atsuko Tanaka has passed away at the age of 61. Tanaka, known for her versatile vocal range and captivating performances, brought to life a plethora of beloved anime characters throughout her career.

Her son, Hikaru Tanaka, confirmed the news of her passing on 20th August 2024, sharing that his mother had been battling an undisclosed illness. Hikaru, also a voice actor, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to his mother's fans and colleagues for their love and support during her lifetime.

Tanaka was widely recognised for her iconic roles in numerous popular anime series, including Hanami in *Jujutsu Kaisen*, Motoko Kusanagi in *Ghost in the Shell*, and Bayonetta in the video game series of the same name. She also lent her voice to Rhinedottir in the popular video game *Genshin Impact*.

Hikaru, in a poignant message shared on X (formerly Twitter), acknowledged his mother's brave battle against her illness, describing her enduring grace, humour, and strength. He revealed that Tanaka fought courageously for over a year, maintaining her characteristic spirit throughout her ordeal.
