Jude Law Joins the 'Star Wars' Galaxy in Nostalgic 'Skeleton Crew' Trailer

The galaxy far, far away is about to welcome another star to its ranks. Oscar-nominated actor Jude Law made a grand entrance at Disney's D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, on Friday, unveiling "Skeleton Crew", a new "Star Wars" series set to debut on Disney+ in December.

Law, addressing a crowd of 12,000 eager fans, described the upcoming series as "a timeless adventure story in the spirit of Amblin coming-of-age films from the '80s," drawing parallels to classics like "The Goonies" (1985) and "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" (1982). He revealed his own lifelong love for "Star Wars", recalling how he became captivated by the franchise as a 10-year-old.

The heart of "Skeleton Crew", according to Law, lies in its child-centric narrative. The series follows a group of youngsters who accidentally blast off from their home planet, finding themselves lost in the vast expanse of the galaxy. The trailer hints at a return to classic "Star Wars" tropes, showcasing glimpses of intergalactic suburban life – complete with space-age school buses and hovercraft bikes – alongside familiar earthly scenes of front lawns and children playing.

The adventure takes a decidedly "Goonies"-esque turn when the young protagonists stumble upon a hidden fortress in the forest, filled with water slides, skeletons, and thrilling secrets. Their discovery leads to an unexpected hyperspace journey, where they encounter exploding spaceships, Jawas, and other strange creatures. Ultimately, they find themselves imprisoned, their hopes for freedom seemingly dashed.

As the trailer unfolds, the key to their escape mysteriously floats towards the imprisoned children. One of them, awestruck, exclaims to a hooded figure: "You're a Jedi!" The camera then pans to reveal the figure – none other than Law himself.

"Skeleton Crew" promises a nostalgic journey back to the spirit of classic "Star Wars" adventures, infused with a fresh perspective through the eyes of its young protagonists. The series will launch on Disney+ with a two-episode premiere on December 3rd.
