Ibiza Villa Raid: Ex-Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw and Mother Sedated by Gang

Former Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw and his 81-year-old mother were reportedly sedated by a criminal gang who broke into their Ibiza villa while they were celebrating his 40th birthday. The incident, which occurred earlier this month, is the latest in a string of similar raids targeting celebrity villas on the Balearic Island.

The gang, known for using gas to incapacitate occupants, targeted Grimshaw's villa while he was with his family. A source told The Sun that the gang wouldn't have known who Grimshaw was but had targeted the villa as it was known to be frequented by "high net worth clients." The gang, after waiting for the gas to take effect, broke into the property wearing hazmat suits and ransacked the villa.

Despite the ordeal, nobody was reported to be injured. A source described Grimshaw as "obviously upset" but chose to keep the incident off social media.

Grimshaw, who rose to fame in 2012 after replacing Chris Moyles on the Radio 1 Breakfast Show, has been a regular fixture on British television, appearing on shows like "The X Factor", "Celebrity Gogglebox", and "The Great British Bake Off." He is also known for his work on E4 and recently announced his engagement to long-term partner Mesh Henry.

The incident highlights a growing trend of criminal activity targeting high-profile individuals in Ibiza, a popular holiday destination for celebrities and wealthy individuals. Previous victims include Formula One driver Jenson Button and Top Gear host Richard Hammond, who both reported being gassed and robbed at their villas. However, medical experts have cast doubt on the effectiveness of using gas to subdue individuals in large environments, suggesting that claims of gassing may be exaggerated.

Despite the unsettling nature of the incident, Grimshaw and his family are believed to be safe and are now back in London. The investigation into the raid is ongoing, with authorities working to apprehend the perpetrators.
