High Winds Force New Order and The Charlatans to Cancel Cardiff Gig

New Order and The Charlatans have been forced to cancel their eagerly anticipated performance at Alexandra Head in Cardiff Bay tonight, 23 August, due to high winds battering the Welsh coast. The decision, made in conjunction with local authorities, prioritises the safety of both performers and attendees.

In a tweet, The Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess explained the situation to fans, saying, "Unfortunately our gig with New Order tonight is cancelled due to high winds on the site. There will be an official statement in due course but letting you know not to travel. We are as gutted as everyone who has a ticket. We wanted to let you know as soon as we could."

While some fans expressed disappointment, many understood the decision, particularly those experiencing the harsh weather conditions firsthand. Journalist Sarah Thomas highlighted the severity of the weather, tweeting, "People whingeing about the New Order/Charlatans gig being cancelled tonight. If you’ve actually been outside in Cardiff today, you’ll know why. The UK is being hit by the tail end of Hurricane Ernesto, so yes, it is safety first – for the punters, but also the crew."

Ticket holders will automatically receive refunds for the cancelled show.

Both bands are scheduled to perform at Wythenshawe Park in Manchester later this week, offering fans another opportunity to catch the acclaimed acts.
