Scottish comedian and actress Karen Dunbar will be joining hundreds of people at South Lanarkshire's first ever Pride march in Hamilton today.
The parade, celebrating the LGBT+ community, will fill the streets of Hamilton with the vibrant colors of the rainbow at lunchtime. Dunbar, known for her role in the popular Scottish sitcom "Chewin' the Fat," will be performing a DJ set at the event, adding an extra dose of fun and excitement.
"I absolutely love taking requests from people," Dunbar told Clyde 1. "It's so much fun, I always get right into the spirit of these things. The best request I've ever had was when someone asked me to play 'Band of Gold' once, which was brilliant."
The parade will begin at 1 pm from Quarry Street, making its way to the council headquarters before returning to its starting point. Malcolm Thomas-Harley, organizer of the event, emphasized the significance of Pride South Lanarkshire in providing visibility and representation for the LGBT+ community within the local area.
"It's really important the LGBT+ community has visibility, representation and a voice in our local communities," said Thomas-Harley. "We shouldn't need to go to the big cities just to have that identity, and that is why Pride South Lanarkshire is so important."
This year's Pride event follows the inaugural Pride South Lanarkshire held last year, which did not feature a march. This year's march promises a vibrant celebration of diversity and inclusion, with Dunbar's DJ set adding a unique touch of entertainment to the event.
