Halle Berry has revealed she gained some serious "cool points" from her daughter after introducing her to co-star Mark Wahlberg. The actress, known for her roles in films like "Catwoman" and "Monster's Ball," shared the anecdote at the Los Angeles premiere of her latest film, "The Union," on Monday, 12 August.
Berry explained that her 16-year-old daughter, Nahla Ariela, a big fan of the "Daddy's Home" franchise, was particularly impressed by the encounter. "Well, I got cool points when I introduced my daughter to Mark, because she loves 'Daddy's Home'," Berry told PEOPLE. "That's one of her favourite movies. So when I got to introduce her to Mark, I think it was the first time in my whole career where she said 'Oh, you know Mark Wahlberg? Okay, you're cool.'"
Berry, who shares Nahla with ex-partner Gabriel Aubry and son Maceo-Robert, 10, with ex-husband Olivier Martinez, continued to share that this was the "first time" Nahla had ever bestowed such praise on her mother. "I've met some really amazing people, but she happened to be a big fan of his," Berry said.
The conversation about her children's potential interest in pursuing a career in Hollywood led Berry to reflect on her own experiences. "I would tell them, do it the way I did it," she advised. "I had no nepotism. Nobody helped me. I had to learn from the ground up. They would have to do it the same way."
She stressed the importance of hard work and dedication for success in the industry. "They would have to go pay their dues, learn a craft, work hard, and make it on their own for themselves," Berry added. "That way it's always theirs. Nobody takes it away. That's what they would have to do."
At the premiere, Berry looked stunning in a long-sleeved black, sheer one-piece dress adorned with floral accents. She was joined on the red carpet by Wahlberg, who plays Mike, a construction worker in New Jersey, alongside Berry's character, Roxanne, his former high school sweetheart, who enlists him on a dangerous spy mission.
"The Union" tells the story of their rekindled romance amidst high-stakes espionage in Europe, combining action, humour, and a touch of old-fashioned charm. The film, described by Wahlberg as "a blue-collar James Bond," is set to premiere on Netflix on Friday, 16 August.
Wahlberg expressed his enjoyment of working with Berry, stating, "Doing anything with Halle is very easy but also an absolute joy. Pretty much any guy or gal would do anything to win her over, so it was certainly easy when it came to me basically following her like a puppy."
He also acknowledged the film's balance of action and humour, highlighting the importance of their chemistry: "There's a nice balance of humour and action with a story that ultimately relies on our chemistry."
"The Union" promises an exciting blend of action, romance, and laughter, and with Berry's recent revelation, the film has already garnered some "cool points" from a key demographic: teenagers.
