Good Things Festival 2024: Korn, Sum 41 Headline Sydney's Rock Extravaganza

Good Things Festival has revealed its impressive lineup for this year's event, with iconic metal bands Korn and Sum 41 topping the bill. The festival, which has successfully campaigned to welcome 16 and 17-year-olds to its Sydney shows, promises a thrilling spectacle for rock fans of all ages.

California-born nu-metal giants Korn will bring their signature sound to the stage, showcasing hits like "Freak On a Leash" from their self-titled debut album, released 30 years ago. The band, boasting two Grammy Awards and numerous platinum album certifications, previously captivated crowds at Download Festival in 2018.

Good Things will mark the final Australian appearance for Canadian pop-punk titans Sum 41. The band announced last year that they would disband following a global tour and the release of their album "Heaven x Hell". Their 2001 album "All Killer, No Filler" catapulted them to fame, with anthems like "Fat Lip" and "In Too Deep" becoming staples of the genre.

Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley expressed pride in the band's achievements but acknowledged that it's time to "call it quits". "It's the right time to walk away from it," he said. "I'm putting all of my energy into what's ahead. This is going to be the biggest tour of our lives, and I want to make it the best show we've ever done. That's it."

Alongside these headliners, the festival boasts a diverse and captivating lineup, offering a nostalgic trip down memory lane for seasoned rock enthusiasts and a thrilling introduction to the genre for newcomers.

Violent Femmes will take to the stage, celebrating the 41st anniversary of their iconic hit "Blister In The Sun". Melbourne rockers Jet will bring their classic anthems "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" and "Rollover DJ" from their album "Get Born", which marked its 20th anniversary last year. The band was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in November 2023.

German metalcore band Electric Callboy will deliver their viral hits "Hypa Hypa" and "We Got The Moves", while The Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan will perform a solo set featuring a selection of his solo material and iconic tracks from his legendary band.

Aussie punk band The Living End, known for their energetic live shows and classic tracks "Prisoner of Society" and "Second Solution", will perform exclusively at Good Things, marking their only live shows for the year.

Dragon, celebrated for their hits "April Sun In Cuba" and "Are You Old Enough", are also confirmed, while Bowling For Soup will bring their alt-rock hits like "1985", celebrating their 30th anniversary.

Other acts set to ignite the stage include Sleeping With Sirens, known for their tracks "If You Can't Hang" and "If I'm James Dean, You're Audrey Hepburn".

The announcement follows Good Things' successful campaign to allow 16 and 17-year-olds to attend the Sydney event, after facing resistance in New South Wales despite Melbourne and Brisbane hosting festivals open to those aged 15 and older.

Good Things promoter Chris O'Brien expressed his delight at the outcome of the petition, emphasising the importance of supporting the remaining festivals in the face of recent cancellations. "I can guarantee you we're like a duck on the water," said O'Brien. "It might look OK on the surface, but underneath we're paddling pretty hard, and it feels like it's not a smooth lake."

Festivalgoers will once again be treated to a variety of thrilling stunts at the iconic STAGE 666, including knife-throwing.

With its impressive lineup and dedication to creating a memorable experience for music lovers, Good Things Festival 2024 promises to be a thrilling celebration of rock music.
