Gavin & Stacey: Final Episode Script Complete

James Corden has announced that he and co-creator Ruth Jones have finalized the script for the last ever episode of the beloved sitcom, "Gavin & Stacey." The news comes after the duo revealed in early May that the show would return for a Christmas Day special, marking a highly anticipated comeback for the series.

The final episode will serve as a conclusion to the cliffhanger ending of the 2019 Christmas special, where Nessa (Jones) proposed to Smithy (Corden).

Corden shared that while he and Jones completed a draft of the script "a while back," it required extensive rewriting due to its length.

“Writing is really fun because you can just go 'anything can happen'," he explained. "But when you rewrite stuff, you're dealing with a lot of logistics and 'well look we might not be able to shoot that, or this needs to be in this location, is there any way this can change?' And, frankly, it's too long."

The pair spent recent weeks trimming the script down, ultimately completing the final version just yesterday.

"Gavin & Stacey," set in both Essex and Wales, has become a cult classic. The show follows the lives of Gavin (Matthew Horne), a young man from Essex, and Stacey (Joanna Page), a young woman from Barry, Wales, as well as their close friends Smithy and Nessa.

Despite the excitement surrounding the final episode, Corden admitted to feeling a sense of bittersweet emotion.

"We will never write anything that Pam says again," he said during an interview on Chris Evans' Virgin Radio breakfast show. "We will never come up with an interesting thing that Bryn has done."

Reflecting on the show's impact, Corden expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to decide its ending and the continued support from fans.

"To even have the luxury of deciding to end it and to be in a position where people still care, it's inconceivable to us - all of it," he said.

Fans are eagerly awaiting the Christmas Day premiere, hoping for a satisfying conclusion to the beloved characters' stories.
