Freddie Prinze Jr. Hopes to Return for "I Know What You Did Last Summer" Reboot
Freddie Prinze Jr., beloved for his role as the charming but somewhat clueless Max in the iconic 1997 slasher film "I Know What You Did Last Summer", is actively pursuing a return for the upcoming reboot. The actor has confirmed he's in talks with Sony Pictures and is hopeful about the possibility of reprising his character alongside Jennifer Love Hewitt.
"Nothing's a lock until there's ink on paper, until the contract's signed, but I'm definitely talking to them," Prinze Jr. shared with Us Weekly. He emphasized his enthusiasm, acknowledging that both he and the production team are dedicated to making it work. "We gotta make sure everyoneâs schedules fit," he added, hinting at the logistical challenges involved in bringing the original cast back.
Prinze Jr. also expressed his admiration for the reboot's director, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, praising her talent and vision. "I like Jen Robinson very much as a director and as a person. I think people like her are the future of this business," he stated. His positive outlook on the project and his admiration for Robinson seem to solidify his commitment to the reboot.
The upcoming film, set to be released on July 18, 2025, will feature a new generation of stars, including Camila Mendes, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Hauer-King. The script, written by Robinson and Sam Lansky, builds upon the original premise established in the 1973 novel by Lois Duncan, with the 1997 film serving as a primary inspiration.
This latest "I Know What You Did Last Summer" reboot follows a string of revivals and reimaginings for the franchise. The original film spawned two sequels, "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer" and "I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer," both featuring entirely new casts. A television series, launched in 2021 on Amazon Prime Video, was unfortunately cancelled after only one season.
