Former 'Amazing Race' Star Sues American Airlines Over Plastic-Laced Beverage

Former 'Amazing Race' contestant and ex-girlfriend of Ryan Seacrest, Shana Wall, has filed a lawsuit against American Airlines after allegedly swallowing plastic shards from a beverage served on a flight to Rome.

The lawsuit, filed with the New York County Clerk on 12 August, details a harrowing experience that occurred on a flight from John F. Kennedy International Airport on 1 May. Wall, a sommelier and contributing recipe writer for Best Life, claims she suffered "serious and permanent personal injuries" after ingesting the plastic shards, which caused damage to her throat, esophagus, vocal cords and digestive system.

The court documents obtained by Us Weekly reveal that the 51-year-old Wall, who rose to fame after appearing on season 12 of 'The Amazing Race' in 2001, was allegedly left "confined to home and bed" and unable to work as a result of the incident. She claims she has incurred significant medical expenses and is seeking an unspecified amount in damages.

Wall's lawsuit accuses American Airlines of failing to provide safe and uncontaminated food and beverages, creating a "dangerous, defective and unsafe condition" on the aircraft.

Despite the distressing incident, Wall continued to share updates of her wine-tasting tour throughout Italy on Instagram in May. However, her lawsuit highlights the potential for serious harm from contaminated food and drink served on flights, bringing into focus the responsibility of airlines to ensure passenger safety.

This incident comes on the heels of another high-profile case involving United Airlines. Last month, the airline issued an apology to Pro Football Hall of Famer Terrell Davis after he was briefly placed on a no-fly list and escorted off a plane in handcuffs. This case, along with Wall's lawsuit, underscores the increasing scrutiny airlines face regarding passenger experiences and the importance of addressing safety concerns.

Representatives for both Wall and American Airlines have been contacted for comment.
