Filth Is Eternal Unleashes Gritty Cover of Hole's "Violet"

Seattle-based punk outfit Filth Is Eternal, known for their raw energy and abrasive sound, have released a captivating cover of Hole's iconic 1994 track "Violet". This release follows their critically acclaimed 2022 album "Find Out" and their recent energetic opening performance for Baroness and Ruby The Hatchet.

Covering "Violet", a song synonymous with Courtney Love's powerful vocals and emotional rawness, was no easy feat. However, Filth Is Eternal has successfully injected their own distinct flavour into the classic, showcasing a more sensitive side while retaining the song's raw intensity.

Lead vocalist Lis D’Angelo, known for her potent scream, channels Love's fierce energy, delivering a compelling interpretation of the track. In a statement regarding their cover, D’Angelo shared:

"We have always loved Hole, and ‘Violet’ was a song all of us were interested in covering. Love herself has always been fearless and uncompromising. The lyrics suggest resentment, violence, and the sexual exploitation of a person under the guise of romance. As the track moves forward, she harnesses her frustrations, finds a way to gain control, to break through, and does so with raw energy and power. The track, between the lyrics and the arrangement, is bloody brilliant and inspiring and an energy we wanted to tap into."

Filth Is Eternal's cover of "Violet" is a testament to their musical versatility and ability to pay homage to iconic artists while carving their own unique path. Listeners can now experience their interpretation of this 90s alt-rock anthem, and compare it to the original Hole performance, highlighting the unique qualities of both versions.
