Eternals' Future Uncertain: A Sequel Is Unlikely, But Its Impact Will Be Felt

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has been venturing into new territory since the culmination of *Avengers: Endgame*, branching out with television shows and movies that stray from the established formula. *Eternals*, a millennia-spanning epic directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Chloe Zhao, was one such attempt.

However, *Eternals

faced mixed reception from critics and audiences alike, and its box office performance fell short of expectations. This led to speculation about the future of the sequel it hinted at.

In a recent interview, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige addressed the fate of *Eternals 2*, stating, "There are no immediate plans for *Eternals 2*." He added, "There are, and I think you’ve seen maybe in a trailer we’ve released recently, an acknowledgment of some of those events. Certain giant things came out of the ocean."

Feige's comments refer to the recent trailer for *Captain America: Brave New World*, which features glimpses of a battle taking place on Tiamut Island. This island was formed after the Eternals defeated a giant Celestial emerging from the Earth's core. The trailer suggests that the battle over the remaining resources of Tiamut will be a significant plot point in the upcoming *Captain America

sequel.

While the most impactful event from *Eternals

will be addressed in *Captain America: Brave New World*, other loose ends remain unresolved. Notably, the mid-credits scene introduced Harry Styles as Eros and his companion, Pip the Troll. Despite the introduction of these characters two-and-a-half years ago, their future in the MCU remains uncertain.

The post-credits scene also teased the emergence of Dane Whitman as the Black Knight. In the scene, he is seen holding the Ebony Blade, his family heirloom, while Mahershala Ali's Blade, who will be introduced in his own solo film, warns him about its power.

The MCU's vast narrative tapestry requires careful attention to maintain continuity. While *Captain America: Brave New World

and the upcoming *Blade* movie will address some of the threads left dangling by *Eternals*, numerous plotlines still need resolution. The introduction of characters like Harry Styles' Eros cannot be left unresolved.

The future of the Eternals remains uncertain, but their impact on the MCU is undeniable. While a direct sequel may not be on the horizon, their story will continue to resonate through future films, reminding audiences of the vast and interconnected universe that Marvel is creating. *Captain America: Brave New World

is set to premiere in theaters on February 14, 2025.
