Emmy Nominations 2024: "Shogun" Dominates with 25 Noms

The 2024 Emmy nominations were announced Wednesday morning, and FX's historical drama "Shogun" emerged as the frontrunner with an impressive 25 nominations, including the coveted Best Drama Series award. This achievement sets several records for the series and marks a significant moment in its journey.

"Shogun" isn't the only FX powerhouse in the race. "The Bear," the critically acclaimed comedy, secured an impressive 23 nominations, setting a new record for comedy series. Other strong contenders include Hulu's "Only Murders in the Building" with 21 nominations, HBO/Max's "True Detective: Night Country" with 19, and Netflix's "The Crown" with 18.

Looking at the overall landscape, Netflix leads with a total of 107 nominations across 35 programs. FX follows closely with 93 nominations across nine shows, trailed by HBO with 91 nominations across 29 programs, and Apple TV+ with 72 nominations across 16 shows. The Walt Disney Co., encompassing networks like FX, ABC, Hulu, and Disney+, achieved a record-breaking 183 Emmy nominations.

The nominees were announced by Tony Hale, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and Television Academy Chair Cris Abrego at a ceremony live-streamed from the El Capitan Theatre. A heartwarming moment unfolded as Abrego announced another Emmy nomination for Ralph for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, a category she won in 2022 for her role in "Abbott Elementary."

The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards are set to air live on ABC on Sunday, September 15th, from 5-8 p.m. PT/8-11 p.m. ET. The ceremony will take place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Leading up to the main event, the Creative Arts ceremonies, where the majority of Emmy trophies are awarded, will take place on Saturday, September 7th, and Sunday, September 8th. While a host for the ABC Emmys ceremony remains unannounced, Jesse Collins, Dionne Harmon, and Jeannae Rouzan-Clay are returning to executive produce the telecast for the second year.

The 2023 Emmys, held in January 2024, were postponed due to the 2023 writers and actors strikes. HBO's "Succession" took home the top prize for Best Drama Series, while "The Bear" and "Beef," both on Netflix, won for Best Comedy Series and Best Limited Series, respectively. All three shows also received accolades for writing and directing. With "Succession" having concluded, the drama field is ripe for a new winner in 2024.

To be eligible for the 2024 Emmys, television programs had to air between June 1st, 2023, and May 31st, 2024. A full list of nominees is available on Emmys.com.
