Emmerdale: Moira Dingle's Devastating Relapse Rocks the Dingle Family
Emmerdale has confirmed that Moira Dingle is battling a relapse into alcohol addiction, a secret she's keeping hidden from her husband Cain and son Matty. Fans of the ITV soap have been concerned about Moira's recent behaviour, noticing signs of her struggles.
Earlier this week, viewers witnessed Moira's satisfaction at Samson Dingle being sent to prison for wrongly accusing Matty of stabbing him. While Sam and Lydia Dingle were devastated, a grin spread across Moira's face, arousing Cain's suspicions about her involvement in his nephew's arrest.
Back at home, Cain confronted Moira about her reaction, but she vehemently denied any involvement with the police. However, her behaviour only added fuel to the fire, as she flung a plate across the kitchen in a fit of anger.
On Tuesday, Cain attempted to move past the previous night's altercation, but Moira's comments only escalated the tension. "They should throw away the key," she said about Samson's prison sentence, adding that he worsened the situation by trying to toughen Samson up for his time behind bars.
Moira's sharp tongue continued the following day when she told her troubled son to "man up" after his ordeal in prison. Matty, feeling a lack of empathy from his mother, accused her of not understanding his struggles. The atmosphere between the two remained fraught.
Despite their tense exchanges, Matty and Moira managed to reconcile during a trip to the village on Thursday. However, his concern was reignited when he found his mum asleep in the middle of the day. Moira attributed her exhaustion to long working hours and keeping a spotless home, pleading with him not to tell Cain. Confused by her sudden drowsiness, she pointed out that she hadn't eaten much food.
Matty agreed to keep her secret, but when he later phoned to check up on her, Moira's deception was revealed. "Yes, I have eaten some food and I'm all rested and I feel like a new woman," she assured Matty, while simultaneously pouring herself a glass of whisky. As she hung up the phone, she took a large gulp and exclaimed, "That's nice."
She then attempted to leave with her drink, grabbing the bottle of whisky as well. It seems Moira is grappling with an alcohol relapse, a devastating turn of events considering her past struggles with substance abuse three years ago.
Meanwhile, Cain, worried about Moira, confided in Sam about his concerns. Will Moira turn to her husband for support in her darkest hour?
