Emma Corrin's Unconventional Villain Role

Emma Corrin's Unconventional Villain Role

Emma Corrin, known for their portrayal of Princess Diana in "The Crown," reveals their initial surprise at the director's unconventional approach to their villain role in the upcoming Marvel film "Deadpool & Wolverine."

Corrin, who uses they/them pronouns, takes on the role of the bald supervillain Cassandra Nova. While excited about the opportunity, they were taken aback by director Shawn Levy's initial direction: "OK, bear with me, but we want you *not

to play her as a villain."

Corrin, initially puzzled by this request, came to understand Levy's vision. The director wanted to avoid a stereotypical portrayal of evil, seeking unpredictable and constantly shifting emotions from Corrin's performance. Levy demanded "changing the weather" during filming, urging Corrin to switch emotions instantly, resulting in a more complex and nuanced villain.

Inspirations for Corrin's portrayal of Cassandra Nova included Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka and Christoph Waltz's Nazi officer in "Inglourious Basterds," suggesting a blend of eccentric charm and menacing intensity.

Beyond their role in "Deadpool & Wolverine," Corrin recently spoke about their experience with bullying in school due to their androgynous appearance. Corrin revealed how they were forced to conform to gender expectations, ultimately choosing to grow out their hair and dress in a more traditionally feminine way.

"Deadpool & Wolverine," starring Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, marks the characters' introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film promises a thrilling blend of action, humor, and unexpected twists, with Corrin's unconventional villain adding an intriguing element to the mix. "Deadpool & Wolverine" is set to be released on July 26th.
