Durham Cathedral has been crowned one of the UK's top free family-friendly attractions, according to a recent study by Village Hotels. The study analyzed Tripadvisor reviews, focusing on the percentage of five-star ratings to identify the most highly-rated free attractions.

Durham Cathedral secured the third spot on the list, boasting a remarkable 77.76% of five-star reviews. It follows closely behind the Potter Trail in Edinburgh, which topped the list with 93.91% of five-star reviews, and the Royal Air Force Museum in Cosford, which secured second place with 80.68%.

Village Hotels, the company behind the study, highlighted the importance of affordable family outings, especially during the summer holidays. A spokesperson stated, "With the summer holidays coming up, many UK families will be looking to spend quality time together – and there are so many great places to explore up and down the UK. We wanted to share some of the UK’s best days out, that don’t cost an arm and a leg."

Visitors to Durham Cathedral have described it as a "well worth the money" experience, praising its historical significance and stunning stained-glass windows. This UNESCO World Heritage site offers a captivating glimpse into the past, regularly hosting events of various scales and serving as a focal point during the Lumiere lights festival.

The study's top 10 list also includes notable attractions like the John Rylands Library in Manchester, the Lady Lever Art Gallery in the Wirral, and the renowned British Museum in London.
