Dominik Mysterio, who debuted in WWE in 2020, has carved his own path in the wrestling world, distancing himself from the legacy of his father, Rey Mysterio. While initially finding success alongside his father as a tag team champion, Mysterio made a shocking turn in 2022, betraying Rey at Clash at the Castle and joining the Judgment Day.
Now known as "Dirty Dom," Mysterio has repeatedly stated that he never felt burdened by his father's shadow. He recently elaborated on this point during an interview with "ESPN Dayton," explaining that he always saw his career as a unique journey.
"I never really looked at it as being in his shadow," Mysterio shared. "It was almost just like I knew what had to be done, and I just kind of kept my head down and kept working. I didn't really focus about filling in his shoes."
He further clarified that he doesn't feel pressure from his current position on WWE Raw, attributing his confidence to the trust that WWE creative has shown in him.
"I never really focused too much on him being kind of like my ball and chain, holding me down a little bit. The company having the trust in me to main event, I was the first person to main event 'SmackDown,' 'NXT' and 'Raw' all in the same week, so like things like that I don't really like think about it because life is just moving so fast."
Mysterio's focus is firmly on the present. He doesn't dwell on past accomplishments or worry about the pressure of big matches. His philosophy is simple: live in the moment and give his best performance every night.
"I try not to get too obsessed with trying to deliver in big matches or reflecting on what I've already done," he said.
Dominik Mysterio's journey is a testament to his determination to forge his own path. He has broken free from the expectations that come with being the son of a wrestling legend, proving that he is a force to be reckoned with in his own right.
