Doctor Who Stars Shine at Comic-Con

The stars of Disney+'s "Doctor Who" reboot, Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson, made their Comic-Con debut, stepping into the famed Hall H for the first time.

"I'm throwing them into the lion's den," said showrunner Russell T Davies, referring to the convention's iconic panel space. "You're on your own, kids! It's big, it's 6,000 people. But it's wonderful. It's a hall full of love, frankly. The joy and the love and the optimism and the energy, you'll be buzzing off it for ages."

Studio, presented by Google TV, for a lively discussion about the new cast members, their dream returns, and the upcoming season.

Gatwa, portraying the 15th Doctor, described his experience as "a pinch me moment." He shared that while he's still growing into the role, he found his footing in the first season and had the time of his life.

"Season Two felt like a chance to flex the muscles properly," Gatwa said, "You're fueled by the writing and by each new story, each new monster, each new addition into our world, there's many in Season Two. It's just the fun of the show. I think that just drives you growing into the character."

Gibson, who plays the Doctor's time-traveling companion, Ruby Sunday, shared that shooting the fourth episode of the upcoming season was one of her favorites.

"That [episode] was the first one I filmed and the biggest challenge. So I was so proud of how it came out."

Varada Sethu joins the cast for the second season, becoming an additional companion alongside Ruby Sunday. Gatwa praised Sethu's "incredible energy," describing her as a joy to work with.

"I mean, the more the merrier," said Gibson, "You know, friendships are better with three."

"We see The Doctor and Ruby in a new light, and with a new friend," Davies said of Sethu, "Like you're saying, different friends bring out different aspects of you."

When asked about dream returns, the cast and crew expressed their desire to welcome Matt Smith, the 11th Doctor, back to the show.

Looking ahead to the new season, Gatwa promised "epic danger and epic growth" for the Doctor and his companions. He also hinted at "growing danger" for the trio to face.

The "Doctor Who" reboot has generated considerable excitement among fans, and the Comic-Con panel further fueled the anticipation for the upcoming season, leaving audiences eager to see what adventures await the Doctor and his companions.
